I'm Jeff Sutherlin. As the owner of Mynk Blak, I’m dedicated to providing stylish apparel, eco-friendly candles, and all-natural skincare products to my clients. I also aim to create a community-focused space in Chicago that celebrates Black entrepreneurship, and promotes overall wellness.

My passion for style led me to a niche career in the eyewear business for more than 30 years. Whether at corporate-owned entities or franchise operations, I strive to provide my customers with quality products and exceptional service. My journey to opening Mynk Blak began in 2022, with a simple idea to use my eye for fashion to create and sell uniquely designed hoodies.

After closing 14 sales in only a few days, I felt like I was on to something. So, I started an apparel business as a side project.

I eventually expanded my product line to include my best-selling premium, soy-based candles. I’ve traditionally lighted scented candles at home for ambience, and in my studio to help me to focus as I create my designs. But, over time, I’d become increasingly disenchanted with their chemical-smelling “scents.” I knew that I could create better products, so, I did- from developing my own custom, luxury fragrance blends, to sourcing my 100% cotton, lead-free wicks.

On a hunch, I decided to offer a Mynk Blak skincare line next . . . partnering with a manufacturer that could create natural formulas based on my own, middle-aged skincare needs. My team and I spent time testing and fine tuning these products, and I quickly became excited to show off my improved skin texture and softened wrinkles.

Mynk Blak, as an ever-expanding brand, has opened a portal that allows me to share both my creations and my interests with the world. When I'm not working, you can find me doing my best to be a loving husband, father, and son. I love working out, and watching crime dramas, suspense thrillers, and horror movies. Going to worship with my family on Sundays is the highlight of my week.
